Blue Slip Inspection

An Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection report, or in other words, Blue Slip, is a requirement by the NSW government to make sure that unregistered vehicles are safe on the roads and meet specific identity and design standards.

A blue slip inspection is very thorough, all components of your vehicle are usually checked. Components such as seat belt, lights, leaks, suspension, brakes, tyres, etc…

A blue slip inspection is for unregistered vehicles that need to be registered and driven in NSW. The blue slip is requested by NSW’s Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) mainly to make sure that the vehicle you want to register meets NSW’s safety standards and is eligible to be on the roads.

You will require a blue slip if your vehicle has one of the following conditions:

Since it’s an inspection for unregistered cars, checking for car ownership is a crucial requirement. Our inspector will check for the car’s VIN and engine numbers, the chassis number and identification. If we find that any of the details provided don’t match the system, we won’t issue the slip.

We advise you to prepare all relevant documentation before you come to the appointment. If you have any receipts proving that you bought the car or major parts of it, please bring them to your blue slip inspection appointment.

Once the blue slip inspection report has been issued, it is valid for 42 days only. If the vehicle hasn’t been registered within this period, you’ll have to apply for a new blue slip inspection report.

If your vehicle failed a blue slip inspection, you have 14 days to fix all the mechanical issues identified and come back for a new inspection.
